Title: I, Frankenstein (12)

Year: 2014

Running Time: 92 minutes

Director: Stuart Beattie

Cast: Aaron Eckhart (Adam), Bill Nighy (Naberius), Miranda Otto (Leonore) Notes: Nominated for one award.

Rating: 4

Thoughts:   Frankenstein's monster finds himself caught up between warring immortal clans.

The plot here is very simple and I am a lot more interested in the back stories than what the vast bulk of the people and monsters involved are actually doing.

The cast is decent and they give the limited story all they've got. But it's just not interesting enough.

Instead of developing promising ideas this all gets played out with CGI effects. The characters don't come alive despite being immortal!

What underpins this is that there is no believability, essential in anything clearly fantastical. We need to know why all these gargoyles and demons are doing what they are doing. Adam certainly needs to know too but we end up not really understanding his part either.

It's a little confused and sloppy, with too much focus on the action CGI, and not enough on plot or characterisation.
