Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part One

Title: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part One

Year: 2010

Running Time: 146 minutes

Director: David Yates

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron), Emma Watson (Hermione)

Notes: Won numerous awards including some for the whole series, nominated for two BAFTAs, nominated for two Oscars.

Rating: 9

Thoughts:   In year seven Harry battles to destroy horcruxes and then finds out about the three artifacts that are the Deathly Hallows.

The film starts with some clever imagery that feels like a dystopian Fascist style order is coming to the magical world.

On this backdrop there is clear danger from the outset. The characters are brilliantly exposed without the direct support of Dumbledore and the film allows the main three's close relationships to shatter and then rebuild.

The use of the horcrux to expose their hidden fears is a clever device that is well done. The middle slow chase segment is a risky thing to do but they carry it off by using a number of mild side diversions along the way.

You share the relentless nature of it all rather than feeling it's overdone. But it's close.

This is another good film in the series and is so much more than just a bridge to the finale.
