Title: Logan's Run (A)

Year: 1976

Running Time: 119 minutes

Director: Michael Anderson

Cast: Michael York (Logan), Jenny Agutter (Jessica), Richard Jordan (Francis)

Notes: Won one special achievement Oscar. Nominated for two Oscars. Won seven awards. Rating: 10

Thoughts:   Amidst a futuristic splendour, life must end at thirty. Logan hunts those that resist this end, before going on the run himself.

This has a very original story that has been adapted well, the narrative catching all of the story's spirit for the screen. But at the same time the well-paced story is simple enough to follow with a great twist at the end, fitting the Cold War concerns that were rife at the time it came out.

It's not a full-on action sci-fi, but rather examines man's worries. It perhaps feels a little old looking at it with our eyes from well into a different century, but it's still an interesting view of a dystopian future.

Forget the quality of the limited effects (they were great in their day) but instead enjoy the connection between York and Agutter. They bring their parts alive and this is a wholesome tale in the end.

If we hadn't had the brave concepts from this sort of film, so much more cinema might not have happened.
