Thoughts: Tris continues on her quest to understand herself and battle to save the divergents.
As with the first, the locations look great, the cast is strong. But, as is often the case with bridge films in a trilogy or longer series, this has a little too much time spent on progressing the overreaching story arc ahead of being a stand-alone film.
So that means you need to buy into the whole premise. I loved the first so that was easy but on its own, this is a little less interesting.
It's just that the plot has to spend a lot of time pushing the whole forward, sacrificing this as a movie. What is done well is how we start to get inside the mind of Tris, understanding her inner conflicts. But it still feels like a bridge.
So very well done but limited in terms of interest in its own right. But once you are hooked by a series...
There is still no denying what the cast offers though, it's more the story that is choppy.
